Santra is among the most recognizable names of the Bulgarian R&B stage. Born in 1983, the singer started playing the piano at 6. Ten years later she became part of the talent show “Hit minus 1”, followed by her first music project “What About Last Night”. Santra’s major stage breakthrough was in 2000 when she performed at the Bulgarian aXe-travaganza Festival along the Greek duet “Antique”, the Dutch pop-trance project Alice Deejay and other artists like Fragma, Tess, DJ Aligator Project, etc.
In 2002 Santra released her self-titled album, including catchy tracks like “Svetlini” (“Lights”). Her single “Bez Teb” (“Without You”) has since became one of the best Bulgarian ballads. It took №73 in the 500 Greatest Bulgarian Songs of All Time List by BG Radio in 2007 and it also got a duet version with another popular Bulgarian artist – Lubo Kirov. Santra’s collaboration with the rapper SPENS led to their hit single “Ne Me Obichash Veche” (“You Don’t Love Me Anymore”), which took 2nd position at the Bulgarian Top 100 Chart.
After a two-year break Santra returned in 2005 with a hip-hop duet partner – Kristo. They proved themselves hit-makers, producing 5 singles in the following years: “Az I Ti” (“Me & You”), “Kak Ne” (“Hell No”), “Trugvai Si” (“Leave”), “Sila” (which also has an English version, called “Make Me Stronger”) and “Neska Fen Sum Ti” (“Today I’m Your Fan”). Through the years Santra has been keeping the successful collaborations with other Bulgarian artists like Grafa, Pavel & Venci Venc, Lora Karadjova etc.
Since 2013 Santra has been recording solo again, making a strong impression with her tender voice, confident music pieces and modern sound, making this a combination to remember. At the age of 33 and with nearly a two-decade span career, Santra’s name still shines brightly in the Bulgarian R&B music.
